Part 1: (email me to take the art work of part 1)
a work of art that we have not covered in class and that does not appear in your textbook.
Analyze the work of art provided. Attempt to identify artist, subject, culture, and approximate time period of the work using visual evidence and your own knowledge of history and art. Support any conclusions with specific evidence from the work, and discuss anything you might find interesting in the piece such as potential symbols, connections with other works, or artistic virtuosity. (at least 250)

+ In completing this assignment, it may be tempting to perform a reverse Google image search. While I cannot stop you from doing this, it is not in your best interest. You will not be penalized for identifying the work incorrectly as long as your writing demonstrates that you have explored and considered the work thoughtfully. However, if you identify the work correctly without anything to show how you got there, you will not have fulfilled the assignment’s requirements.
+ Assignment images do not necessarily come from the lesson just covered. These lessons build upon one another, so you should be considering all the cultures and eras you have learned about so far when completing any assignment.
Part 2: (email me to take the picture for part 2)
In your book, you learned about the competition to design the doors of the Florence Cathedral baptistery, and you saw the competition entries by Ghiberti and Brunelleschi. You already know that Ghiberti won the commission – do you agree with the judges’ decision? Who do you believe should have won? Explain why you believe the artist you chose created a work that was more visually effective and appropriate for the city of Florence. Be specific! Imagine being a proud citizen of the Renaissance city and think about what you would like a prominent new public work of art to convey about Florence. How does your pick better achieve this goal than the other work?
