Assignment Question

The objective of this report is to analyze four websites: Edmunds, Investopedia, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and Consumer Reports, and determine which one provides the best quality of advice for a consumer who is trying to decide wether to lease or buy a car. For the report, please analyze what each website advises to two consumer types. Consumer #1 is a college student: “Recent Tier-1 college graduate residing in urban areas of the United States, who is actively considering the purchase or lease of a vehicle within the next six months. Average salary: $88,193, Tech-savvy, Low levels of prior experience, seeks customized guidance with an emphasis on financial considerations, transparency (i.e exposure of hidden fees) and overall user experience. This consumer will likely move cities as he changes jobs in two-years, it is still uncertain, and will use the car only to drive to work in the morning and back late at night because he usually works long hours. He will only do long trips, if any, 1-2 times a month during the weekends.”

Consumer #2 is a “35-year-old tech professional with a wife and a two-year-old daughter. They’re in the market for a reliable and fuel-efficient SUV that prioritizes safety and modern technology. The ideal car should be spacious for family trips and eco-friendly, with a preference for hybrid or electric options. The budget-conscious couple seeks a practical yet sophisticated vehicle to fit their dynamic lifestyle.”Consider the profile of each consumer, and use it to identify what each website is best recommending these two consumers, should they lease or should they buy? Analyze the websites based on these categories: Transparency (is the advice honest or is the page sponsored), customization, exposure/educating consuemr on hidden fees of leasing/buying contracts (things to look out for), content quality, user friendliness, community engagement (that is, does the page allow the user to read testimonials, ask questions on a forum etc.). The key aspect is 1) To present what each of the four websites recommends to each of the 2 consumers (so 8 results total) and 2) compare the results between each website. Do it separately for each consumer. Do the websites give the same person the same advice? how similar or different are they from each other? Determine which is the most reliable for the consumer. It could be that one website will give the best advice to consumer #1, and another will give the best advice to consumer

#2. Compare and contrast in this manner. The written report will be evaluated based on: Clarity: Identify the products/apps/advisors examined and state the questions addressed. Procedure: Explain what you did and why in terms of data collection and evaluation. Results: Explain your findings and conclusions. Your Critique: What are the products/apps/advisors’ limitations, and what are your recommendations for improvement. These are crucial. They are the initial draft that was submitted. Use this as an idea and stick to the struture, but feel free togive different analysis and results if you find differences. This task is also different in the sense that now two consumer types need to be analyzed, not just one as you will find in the presentation. You will see on the Word doc the score matrix. In this case we only added the scores but for the final report we need to give each category a different weighting. Feel free to choose your own method to assign the weighing to each category, but explain on the report how you did so. The report is 10 pages double spaced and must include graphs/charts/screenshots from website, + whatever you deem necessary.
