Aim You are to produce a report explaining the role that projects play in business and organizations and the concept of how benefits might be realized in a project. The word limit for this assignment is the equivalent of 2,000 words and contributes to 50% of the module. Intended Learning Outcomes (ILOs) This Assessment covers Learning Outcomes 1 and 2 for HPRO4003: 1. Explain the role that projects play in business and organizations 2. Explain the concept of ‘benefits’ and how these might be realized in projects Scenario You must choose one of the five mega-projects from the video “Most Useless Megaprojects in the World”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=on2yz8SN3fg You must select one of these projects in the video: i. Interstate H-3, USA Hawaii Task In the form of a written report, 1. Explain the role that projects play within businesses and organizations, using relevant theory and your chosen project as context. 2. With reference to the ‘The Green Book’ (and supporting guidance) and other academic sources, explain how the development of the Business Case supports the project benefits realization, using your chosen project from the video to add context. Report Format The format for this assignment is a Written Report. To address the learning outcomes your report should be structured as follows:
Executive Summary (excluded from word count). This provides a concise overview of the entire report. An Executive Summary provides a context to the report and the main findings / recommendations. It may be useful to write this section once the report has been completed as it will only be at this point you can offer an executive summary.
▪ Introduction (max 250 words) introduction to your report. Here you will outline what you intend to cover and how. It is also an opportunity to highlight some of the main aspects of your chosen project.
▪ Main Body of Report (1,500 words) The first section should focus on how/why projects support businesses and organizations, with links to your chosen project to add context and insight. Section two moves on to explain the business case, how it justifies projects, and how this could have supported your chosen project. Again, make sure to include examples from your chosen project.
▪ Conclusion (max 250 words) Summaries the key findings in your report. Reflect upon what has been discussed in the main body of your report, providing an overview of what has been explored/explained.
▪ Reference List (excluded from word count) A list of the sources referred to in the report. Add pictures.
