1.) Watch the flash beep illusion below. Stare at the cross at the top of the screen. You will hear beeps and see flashes. Note how many flashes you see in each instance of the series.

2.) Read the one page article by Shams et al. describing this illusion.
3.) Answer the questions below:
a. Choose two different senses and explain why they might need to work together. Are there any senses that do not need to work together? Why might this be the case?
b. Why might it be beneficial for one sense to alter the perception of other sensory information?
c. Explain how top-down processing is involved in these effects. Why are multisensory convergence zones necessary?
