Complete citation the Academic style is Turabian (include a complete name of the author, publication state, & amp; page). This is a researched exegesis paper that requires a focused discussion on a specific theme, motif, and/or issue that arises from the exposition of (pre-flood) Genesis 1:26-31 & Gen 93-7(post-flood). That is, this paper is not a verse-by-verse commentary, but rather a discussion of one particular aspect of the passage that grows out of, and is demonstrably supported by, careful and detailed attention to the passage.
The ultimate goal of the paper is to consider
(1) how issues of food and drink are at work in Genesis 1:25-31 and then (2) to reflect theologically on these issues in a manner that may prove fruitful for this current world. Be sure to include some attention to:
(1) significant socio-historical issues arising from the world behind the text (when was it written and how is this significant for the specific argument of the paper), (2) an exposition of the literary form, context, and themes of the passage. These first two steps should be worked out through thoughtful interaction with a minimum of 7 scholarly sources (journal articles, monographs, and commentaries, ideally dating after 1990. I have included some sources below). A good place to start is with commentaries available online through Hermeneia, Old Testament Library, NICOT, and Smyth and Helwys series.
(3) the theological importance of the passage with regard to the eating/drinking issues raised.
(4) the appearance and treatment of the same theme in other places in Scripture (You may start with: Acts 10:15; v.28; Lev. 3:17,11; Deut.12:16, 23-25;15:23; 1 Sam. 14:33; Eze 33:25; Col 2:16; and pre-flood supporting scriptures Psalms. 104:14-15; 1Tim 4:3-5)
(5) application to the current world
Further thoughts and direction: God restricting diets to plants in Genesis 1:29-31 but by Genesis 9:3-7 after the flood humankind are permitted to eat meat. Food plays a significant role in Genesis-1:29-30 because diet is a big deal and motif it speaks not just to the physical eating of food but also to what God is showing about Gods nature. Also, was Daniels 1:3-10 and his preference and superiority of a vegetable-based diet written in Baylon during exile part of Daniels anti-pagan polemic protest? We know its the king’s meat that he rejects but why even go for a plant -based diet? Did God ever intent for humanity to never eat meat, and why? Did subdue and steward the earth include eating animals pre-fall/flood? What is the idea behind the sinful blood taste of humankind pre-flood? the life of the being being in the blood, is that why blood eating if forbidden? what are the implications? What does this restriction tell me about God and humanity?
