Explain and examine how Orwells descriptive story telling creates meaning. What is the meaning behind the descriptions? How does he create meaning with his descriptions? Why does he choose to use description as opposed to commentary to create the meaning he wants his readers to understand? And when he does provide commentary, why does he choose that moment to provide commentary as opposed to the other moments taking place in the essay? You must use quotes and examples from George Orwells essay to support your points.
Technical Terms:
Your essay must be written in MLA formatting (Google: Owl Purdue MLA in order to find the rules and structure of MLA formatting). Your essay must be five paragraphs long and must include an introduction that leads to a thesis statement (I will not accept thesis statements written in the form of a question), body paragraphs that each contain a reason statement that supports your thesis (your reason statements/topic sentences must include the transitional phrases that demonstrate that your reason statements support your thesis), and finally, a conclusion paragraph in which you restate your thesis, summarize your main points (reasons statements/topic sentences), and provide two or three sentences that demonstrate to the reader why your essay is important to read. In addition, you must use quotes from George Orwells essay to support your own line of thinking no matter which writing prompt you choose. When using quotes or paraphrasing George Orwells essay, you must include an in-text citation along with a work cited page that is the last page of your essay and is on a separate page from the rest of your essay (I will provide you an example of what the citation for the work cited page should look like).
