In the paper, you will explain how the determinant of your choice may impact the health of a local population. This can include any group of people living in Central Florida or the US, such as LGBTQ populations, racial minorities, immigrants, women, young adults, children, adolescents, farmworkers, or any other population you can think of. Alternatively, you can focus on a local population outside the US, such as Weger Muslims in China, LGBTQ+ in South Africa, Indonesian domestic workers in Saudi Arabia, working class women in the UK, Hmong refugees in Germany, etc. If you need help thinking of a population that interests you, speak with me and we can think of an idea together. After you select your population, you should find a specific health problem that affects the population. You can use any peer-reviewed source to find information, or go directly to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website and do a search for the population or global health issue of interest at https://www.cdc.gov (Links to an external site.). Then, you will consider how the social determinant of your choice plays a role in the health problem among the population you chose.
To summarize, your paper should:
Describe a local population of interest. Who are they? What is the size of the population?
Explain a health problem the population experiences. What is the incidence rate of the problem? What is the prevalence?
Consider how the social determinant(s) of your choice may play a role in that health problem. Which social determinants do you think should be addressed, and why? How would you address that determinant if you were able to? Who else needs to be involved in order to make that change happen?
