2, Emotional intelligence is "a set of abilities to perceive and express emotion, assimilate emotion in thought, understand and reason with emotion, and regulate emotion in oneself and others." Emotional intelligence is extremely important in an organizational setting, especially for those who make decisions. Hasty decisions made as a result of emotion can often be the wrong answer and lead to mistakes, loss of revenue, loss of business, or loss of your own employees. There are several industries where emotional intelligence is crucial, these industries are the highly emotionally taxing occupations such as health care and first responders. Even in a business environment, emotional intelligence is important. This skill allows us to not only recognize our own emotions and helps to control them but helps to identify and assist others. Having empathy can make a huge difference on someone's bad day and will better their work performance.
