Distribution of the continents and oceans, including the features of the major ocean basins and the features and patterns of the water in the oceans in terms of temperature, salinity, density and depth.

Assignment:
Select an ocean-related topic. Some examples could include a particular ocean, sea, inlet, gulf or bay. It could include any specific coastal area, a current, a submarine feature like a seamount or mid-ocean ridge. It could be a type of seafloor sediment, a trench, or beach. It could be a process, like tides, wave properties, or thermohaline circulation. It could even be a biological organism or community, or an environmental or economic issue. This is to be a VERY open ended set of topics. The only limitation is that you tie the topic in with oceanography and specifically address how your topic relates to the concepts presented in the textbook chapters that we cover in this section.

Textbook Topics:
– Distribution of the continents and oceans, including the features of the major ocean basins and the features and patterns of the water in the oceans in terms of temperature, salinity, density and depth.
– Methods for measuring bathymetry, and the distribution and basic regions of the seafloor including the continental margins, the deep ocean basins and the mid-ocean ridges.
– Source, formation and distribution of the major types of marine sediments.
– Ocean currents, ocean waves and tides, and summarize the factors the generate and influence them.
– Interactions between the oceans and the continents in terms of shoreline dynamics as well as how this interaction influences the worlds climate.

Writer’s Instructions:
Pick any ocean-related topic (except the Pacific Ocean), and related it to the textbook topics. (Not all but a few to show understanding of the material)
