Topic: Discuss the way a mental health condition that we discussed in this class has been portrayed in popular culture. Using the assigned media / text: Brain on Fire as well as any one additional PUBLISHED narrative (personal blogs or journals do not count), discuss how fair, accurate, and nuanced the depictions are and how they fit into the greater narrative history of the specific psychiatric illness.
Instructions: 4 to 6 pages, 1.5 or double spacing; Times New Roman, 12 point font; MLA or APA sourcing for quotations
Please use one of the main texts during class (Virginia Woolf, Brain on Fire, Esme Wang, The Bell Jar, The Reason I Jump, Fun Home, etc.) in your paper. You can use ANY other (published) medium for your second piece, so be creative! You do NOT have to compare pieces from different weeks against each other. As mentioned, try to avoid using any of the scientific papers (ASD, Depression) as your primary text as it may create a more difficult paper for you.
