Discuss nature and nurture with regards to your own development.

Students will complete the assigned Research Writing Papers. Not completing the assigned Research Papers Required for Communication & Computational Skills Standards (Formerly known as Gordon Rule ), will result in a failing course grade regardless of your other assignment grades!

Research Writing Paper 1 Instructions:

In this research essay you will discuss the scientific debate on nature vs nurture. Are we more nature or are we more nurture or are we a combination of both?

Discuss the concepts of nature and nurture.

What is nature? Give examples of what is meant by nature.
What is nurture? Give examples of what is meant by nurture.

Discuss nature and nurture with regards to your own development. The idea is to make connections between research on the information, your life, and the concept of nature and nurture. For instance:

When speaking about nature, what traits do you see in yourself and where did you get them?
When speaking of nurture, what event had a impact on your early life, such as if your parents divorced when you were young, or you moved around a lot, or an illness, or the death of a loved one? Maybe you had really great and supportive parents, how has that impacted or supported your developmentDo you think nature, or nurture, or a combination of both has made you who you are today? Explain why you think this (in other words, support your conclusion).

Use MLA or APA Formatting for this research essay paper (Choose one formatting style. Do not combine the two formatting styles).

The paper must be at least 500 to 750 words max. Do not exceed 750 words. (Note: the word count only includes the words in the essay portion of the paper, and not the header, title, or work cited section sources.

Make sure to double space your paper.

Use 3 peer reviewed sources in your paper. (Your textbook can be one source). This means I will see at least 3 different in-text citations in the body of the paper and at least 3 fully cited sources (that match your in-text citations) in the work cited section (MLA)/reference section (APA) of the paper.

Your paper must have a header section (MLA) or a cover page (APA) you do not need an abstract for APA papers. Your paper must include in-text citations and a work cited section sources/reference section sources with fully cited sources. Add the word count at the bottom of the paper. The word count does not include the header section, or the work cited sources.

When you submit your paper to Turnitin, your paper will submit to Turnitin automatically for an Originality score. Your Originality score must be under 25% including the work cited section. You may make corrections to your paper by making changes to the matches in the body of the paper and then resubmitting the paper in the Canvas assignment drop box (up until the due date of the paper). Note: It may take up to 24 hours to receive an originality score after your first submission to the Canvas assignment drop box. Please do not upload a Google doc, PDF, or Pages paper. If you are not using Microsoft Word, please submit your paper as a .rtf (rich text format) file.

Use quotes sparingly! That means one or two short quotes at the most! Put the information from other sources in your own words, which is called paraphrasing. You will still cite your sources in-text and in the work cited section even when you paraphrase the information from other authors. Please do not copy and paste or write information word-for-word from other sources as this not showing your own work and is considered plagiarism.

IMPORTANT: Research Papers are required to be turned into Turnitin for an Originality Report. Assignments that have excessive amounts of copied and pasted work from authors or websites (over 25%) even when they appear to be properly cited is not acceptable as the Original work of the student. These types of assignment submissions are considered the work of other author(s) and not the work of the student. These types of submissions will receive a zero. Turnitin Software will be used to determine originality of student work. If the Turnitin Originality Report is over 25% match on any assignment the assignment will not be accepted, and the assignment will receive a zero for the grade.
