We have organized this module by activities to successfully implement an innovation strategy.
Using the same company that you used in your first assignment, assume that you have now been working at the company for 3 months and you need to hire a new Chief Information Officer (CIO). The position primarily focuses on the information technology that the firm uses, but it will also deal with all the digital systems at the company including the internal systems. Assume that the company has had a technology department but this leadership role is a new one for the firm. Assume that most of the systems were not designed to be integrative. You have been charged with ensuring that the strategy of the firm to innovate is implemented. As you search for your ideal CIO, how will you ensure that the strategy is clearly communicated?
There are many ways to characterize a leader. If you are seeking an innovative leader for an organization, what do you think are the 10 most important characteristics for the leader to have? Ensure that you relate this back to the model you created and how the leader will help to implement the innovative strategies for the firm. How will you determine if an individual has those characteristics?
Then assume that the CIO will need to hire at least one new manager for the Information Technology Department. Discuss how executives hire managers to ensure a successful managerial fit.
