Developmental Psychology- Policy Critique

I have attached the description to the requirements and the course notes as well for background and reference.

The paper would be 3-5 pages in length, and would follow APA formatting for a title page and reference section. No abstract is required.

No matter which option you use, you must have a reference page that includes the website where you found the policy. At least TWO sources must be used to inform your critique (these can be the text, course notes, or module readings/outside sources). Additional sources may come from the modules or they may be outside sources. If they are outside sources, however, they must be scholarly (NO Wikipedia, About.com, Ehow, or the like). If you are unsure if your source is scholarly, please check with me first. The reference page must be in APA style!

Your goal will be twofold:
a) Apply solid life-course research/theory to your policy
b) Critique the policy in terms of the how it may affect people in the time developmental period you selected.

Questions you may want to address in your presentation include (but are not limited to):
What is the purpose of the policy?
Are there any biases that may be present in the creation of the policy?
How does life-course theory (or other developmental theories/research presented in class) apply to your policy (e.g. How does it affect transitions or trajectories? How does it affect physical, cognitive, or socio-emotional development?)
What effects might this policy have on the lives of those in the time period you chose? Are there other developmental periods that might also be affected?
What does the current research (e.g. from your text, notes, or module readings) say about the effects of policies like the one you selected?

For example, if you chose the above-mentioned policy about maternity leave, you might discuss the effects that lack of maternity leave may have on the timing of the transition to parenthood or the trajectory of the young adults career path. Then you might examine current research relating to working mothers or how this policy compares to worldwide maternity leave policies. You MAY NOT use a policy presented in the class already.

Grading:
Adequacy of Sources (0-2 points): Two scholarly sources must be used (In ADDITION to the website where you found the policy). All sources must be cited on your slides or in a separate reference page. One point will be given per source. Sources used must be in addition to the source you use for your policy (i.e. the website on which you located your policy).

APA Style (0-2 point): Each student must submit an APA-style reference slide or page. All citations, including the textbook, course notes, and your policy source, must be in proper APA style. You MUST have in-text (or in this case in-presentation) citations in the form of (Author, year) on your slides where you are using the material from that source. See https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/10/ for how to cite articles, course notes, and other electronic sources. See https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/03/ for help citing in-text. NO DIRECT QUOTES should be used, and all information should be paraphrased from your sources. Sources should be cited on the slides or in the paper after the information that comes from that source. This presentation will also go through turn it in to check for plagiarism issues.

Organization (0-1 point): Presentations should be clearly organized and easy to follow. Presentations should also fall within the given time/page limit (5-10 minutes/5-10 slides/3-5 pages). Presentations and accompanying document should be free from mechanical errors (spelling and grammar).

Support/Understanding (0-5 points): All opinions must be based on scholarly sources and course material. This criterion focuses on how well you understand course theories and principles, and can apply these to real world policies. Links to course material should be very clear, and should be explained/defined. Imagine your audience is unfamiliar with the theory/concept. You should not just mention that the theory applies, but be specific on how it applies. Be sure you explain what how the policy would affect development (physical, cognitive, or socio-emotional) for the developmental period you chose and the evidence that supports your claim.
