Final Portfolio Essay Submission (Revised) The final assignment of the course asks you to construct a portfolio of your work that analyzes how well you have met the learning outcomes for Freshman Composition. These outcomes are listed below. Outcome 1 strategies; develop those ideas into readable drafts 2 Argumentation Explain and respond to the rhetoric and arguments of others 3 critical understanding 4 Paraphrasing, and Documenting Sources Design academic inquiries and develop strategies for finding, evaluating, and integrating information purposefully in a given context 5 Disciplinary Knowledge Craft a style appropriate to the genre, audience, and purpose of the text 6 and rhetorical situation 7 own texts With these learning outcomes in mind, select three (3) papers that you feel will provide the best evidence that you have mastered all of the outcomes. At least two (2) of the papers should be work that you did in the current course. The third could be from the current course, a previous course in the composition program, or from an entirely different class. Write a cover letter to the reader of your portfolio describing and reflecting on your growth as a reader and writer. Content of the Cover Letter and Portfolio Essays Your cover letter’s purpose is to persuade the reader that you have met all the learning outcomes for the course. As such, you want to choose appropriate essays that, when combined, provide evidence of each of the seven outcomes. Your cover letter will refer to specific passages from these essays that demonstrate compelling use of the skills described in each of the outcomes.
As noted in class, the letter’s length follows a typical essay assignment: 3-5 pages. Feel free, of course, to go beyond the page length if you have a lot to say and the page requirements above are too little to accomplish what you have to say.
