Paper Instructions:

For this reading response, you’ll first read three short stories from our Literature textbook.

First, choose and read one of the stories from P. 6-13:
“Death Has an Appointment in Samarra, The Fox and the Grapes, The Camel and His Friends, Independence; Godfather Death”

Second, choose and read one of the stories from p. 29-68:
“A Rose for Emily, The First Year of My Life, A Worn Path; Sonny’s Blues”

Finally, choose and read one of the stories from p. 75 – 114:
“Bullet in the Brain, where Are you Going, where Have you Been:; Recitatif; Cathedral”

Next, in your response, include a brief introduction/conclusion and answer the following questions:

1. Describe your first story and what element of short story it uses most effectively. Which does it use least effectively?

2. With your second story, explain its point of view and why you think it was chosen for this specific section.

3. With your third story, describe the characters and why you think it was chosen for this specific section.

4. Which of the three stories do you like the best, and why? Which do you like the least and why?
