Describe what Management by Objectives (MBO) is and what the MBO process entails.

Beginning with chapter 10 in our recent course work, and proceeding up through this week’s material in chapters 12 -13, the focus has been on work teams, intergroup (inter-team coordination), and now goal setting. Chapter 12 actually brings this all together in discussing how top-level organizational goals translate down into mid-level departmental/functional ( engineering, marketing, manufacturing, finance, etc) goals, and finally into individual employee goals. Reflecting back through the material in chapters 10 and 11, and now into goal-setting covered in chapter 12, and using cited references from at least 2 outside sources (outside the textbook), write a 4-6 page paper (following standard APA guidelines) in which you address the following:

1.how can goal-setting throughout an organization be used as part of an OD program?

2. describe what Management by Objectives (MBO) is and what the MBO process entails.

3. using Figure 12.3 on page 325 as a guide, describe how goal-setting within an MBO framework could be used to link individual employee goals to those of the entire organization.

4. describe some of the shortcomings of MBO

Grading will be based on 20 points max for each question and 20 points max for mechanicixcs (including references and citations)
