DB Response – LG – Leadership

The integration of technology in the classroom has had many benefits to students as well as educators. The pace at which tools are being developed and implemented for use is almost astounding. This is where I believe the hesitancy comes in. Older educators may find pause because they are not knowledgeable on the use of the technology, or they are just so old-school, that they prefer to do things the way they are accustomed to doing them. As an administrator, I would use the literacy/math team coalitions that our district uses to encourage the use of the tools. The teams consist of teachers in each discipline, and they map out assignments and teaching strategies. They could use one of those meeting times as a cooperative learning period in which those that feel uncomfortable with using technology are paired with other educators who are comfortable and possibly come up with a collaborative plan for more and better use during classroom instruction. Along with the advances in technology, our understanding of learning using technology should also expand. The synchronicity of technology and educator development can create high-leverage practices that improve learning (Tan et al. 2015).

The expectations for the use of technology tools may not have been made clear on the front end. If it were presented as an option, I could see why teachers would not wholeheartedly implement the usage. Communication in these situations needs to be very transparent so that everyone is on the same accord. Professional development levels of school administrators have a direct influence on the development of the schools, which they manage. Therefore, the professional learning of administrators is reflected in their professional development and the ways, in which they manage the schools (Tasocak, 2002). Administration is acknowledged to be a service that is executed along with the teaching profession. Therefore, it bears importance to make a research on the careers of the administrators in consideration of the fact that administration has an impact on the career development of school administrators, students, and teachers directly (Cameron et al., 2013).

The leader should use the Heuristic approach to solve the problem as it requires you to use reasoning, based on learning and experience (Sprankle, 2006 pg.5). As an administrator, you have or should have gone through a training regimen that required you to problem solve, both collaboratively, and individually. The Heuristic approach uses human ingenuity to solve problems. Everyone knows that an employers most valuable resource is its employees. Identifying the problem, understanding the problem, coming up with a list of solutions, picking a solution, implementing the solution, and evaluating the solution all require thinking, reasoning, and compromising to effectively solve the problem.
