After visiting the MA Specialty Court website, I would like you to select one of the specialty courts to write your paper on; you can choose either the Drug Courts, Veterans’ Treatment Courts, Mental Health Court, or Homeless Court. This week you will be writing a research paper on this topic. I would like you to do some research and tell me more about the court you chose. What does it do? How does it work? What are the goals of the court, and how do they accomplish those goals? After you have told me more about the court, I would like you to discuss two positive aspects (or benefits) of this specialty court and two negatives (or things that may be problematic). These benefits/problems do not have to be about the Massachusetts courts specifically. You can do some research on specialty courts located in other states that may be similar to help you think about the pros/cons. You can then conclude your paper with any final thoughts on the use of specialty courts.
You must include at least one citation from an outside academic source (it should not be from one of the assigned readings for the class). Your source should have a proper APA in-line citation and references page.
Your paper should be a minimum of 2 FULL pages (this means you are going on to a third page- even if it is just one sentence) in length and no more than 4 pages. The paper will be typed, double-spaced, 12 point Times New Roman font. You will use 1 inch margins, and will NOT include any headers or titles. If you want to include a title page for your paper, please make that a separate first page. The only thing that will be included on the pages of your paper is page numbers.
