Week 5: The Reflective Annotated Bibliography
Due by the end of Week 5 at 11:59 pm, ET.
What is an Annotated Bibliography? The purpose of an Annotated Bibliography is to help you evaluate your sources carefully. You do not want to choose sources from random websites and blogs. Instead, you will select credible sources that fully support your points for your career research paper. Under each reference citation, you will write a summary and evaluation of each source. In other words, you will have a reference list with annotations (summary and evaluation) of the sources. This way, you will know, and I will know that chose the best sources for this research paper.
The Research:
First, choose four sources. At least 2-3 of these sources should come from the Virtual Library, other open journals online, or similar sources. Print these sources out, if possible, and highlight important points. Write in the margins. Make notes and ask questions. As you begin to interpret, annotate, and draw conclusions about each source, use the following questions to guide you.
Look for specific information that the writers present. What are the main points in the article or source? How do they affect your view of your topic? Note keywords, headings, and anything that stands out as you read.
Check for information about the authors affiliations and credentials. What makes him/her a reliable source of information on the topic? You may have to research the authors background and career to decide if he/she is a credible authority on the subject matter.
Format Requirements:
Double-space entire document
Times New Roman, 12-point font
APA 7th edition formatted citations. A full reference is required. Please use your APA guide (or MyBib.com, NoodleTools, or similar) to help you cite your sources.
Write a summary (3 to 5 sentences) of the article. Include the main points from the article or important passages you want to use.
Critically evaluate the source (3 to 5 sentences). This part should address such aspects as author credibility; gaps, inconsistencies, or flaws; repetition of information; and whether you feel this will be a source you will incorporate in your final piece of writing.

In this section, you will write the annotation for the source you have cited above. You will write a summary and an evaluation/reflection. For the summary, briefly write about the source. Focus on describing your source, such as the author’s qualifications and why the source was created. Describe the main ideas/arguments, and identify the cited source’s intended audience. In your evaluation, critically assess the selected source for accuracy, relevance, and quality. Explain why each source is useful for your research topic and how it relates to your topic. Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the source. Identify the observations or conclusions of the author. Explain the author’s expertise, point of view, and any bias he/she may have about the topic. Reflect on how you will use the source in your essay or how it will help you support your points. Your assignment asks you to include a summary and evaluation/ reflection. The annotation paragraph (each of them) should be 4-8 sentences long.
