The very nature of being an effective critical thinker lies within the argument. Whether you
are doing the presentation of ideas or receiving information your ability to identify the
components of an argument and construct a valid argument is critical for your success as an
effective critical thinker.
In 3 to 5 pages, discuss the formal construction of an effective argument and then present
your argument on one of three topics: environmental conservation, the impact of technology
on education in America, or psychological impact of social media. Here are some suggest
questions to consider for your paper:
1. Why did you choose this topic? It was in alignment with your values? It
was in the news? You heard someone else discussing it and thought it was
interesting?
2. What is the overall impact on society of your topic, either social or economic
or both? What does the research say?
3. What is your position/perspective on your chosen topic and what is the
counter position/perspective?
4. How did doing this exercise in critical thinking impact how you think about
the topic you choose to discuss?
5. Discuss what you learned about yourself that you didnt know prior to
completing this exercise, and how this newfound insight will support your
future development.
Research Component:
You must use 3-5 research sources to support your argument.
Cite your research in APA format.

Typed and double-spaced
Font 12 Times New Roman
Cover page: title, class – time and day, instructors name, and student name,
running header, section titles.
