Critical Analysis

Task Description
Choose one wicked problem, as defined in the course. This is a complex social issue which meets
the criteria of a wicked problem. In defining your choice as a wicked problem, you must refer to
course materials and references on wicked problems and types of problems.
Briefly describe one attempt that have been made to address this problem and the unmet social
need. Critically analyse how successful this program or initiative has been in addressing the root
causes of the problem, drawing on an understanding of systems thinking and types of change as
presented in the course.
Conclude with an original idea or innovative initiative to address the problem using systems
thinking. In doing so you should clearly identify which root causes/causes your proposed solution is
addressing.
Format: Report style
Use headers in your report. The critical analysis is a report which will be structured in three parts
as follows:
Part 1: Establish your social issue as a wicked problem and provide background and context in
relation to the target population and location which relate to it. (*150 words)
Part 2: Critically analyse attempts to address the problem using a systems lens (*400 words)
Part 3: Drawing on your critical analysis of attempts to address this social issue, develop your own
social innovation to create positive change for your target population. (*250 words)
