A content analysis of images of deviance will be completed for this activity. The process is easier than you might imagine. Start by reading the attached article. Although this article refers to teachers, the process you will use is the same. I always remind students that the methods section of their papers should be like a cookbook. Repeat the recipe included in the attached paper, with some modifications.
Use Google images to search for something that may be defined as deviant. For example, try “nose picking.” As the results indicate, this appears to be a young white male activity. Why do you suppose they tend to look directly at the camera? Do people of color also pick their noses? Is so, why aren’t they represented in our sample? Would it be safe to assume only young white males pick their noses. Etc.
Your Assignment:
Use Google images to search for something that may be defined as deviant.
What themes are repeated? What is missing? What would we know about your topic if we compare your results to scholarly research?
Try to replicate the attached paper. Shorter, and a different topic, but follow the same general outline.
