This chapter deals with many forms of Contemporary American Theatre that are outside the “norm” or the mainstream of commercial entertainment. Wilson talks about the lack of government support for the arts in this country and cuts to the NEA (National Endowment for the Arts) program. A play such as ‘Clyboune Park’ might have difficulty finding funds for a production due to the controversial subject matter and sensitive topics in the script.
