We want to see that you can use the theory we taught you to help assess the way in which responsible and sustainable leadership is functioning within Unilever. You cant analyse all aspects of the company in one report, so be sure to find an angle, and then select the relevant theories and case material to help you make one central argument. Some examples of such as angle include analysing the companys stakeholder engagement practices, discussing the CEOs leadership, unpicking the companys implementation of systems thinking, critically assessing how corporate agency is functioning in Unilevers case, and so on. Then choose a few of the theories we discussed to help you analyse these areas and develop critical perspectives that could move the company forward in terms of its responsible and sustainable business practices.
Here are some important criteria for a successful analysis:
Use conceptual and empirical evidence: this means you should substantiate what you say through facts or theory.
Conduct research of the relevant academic and practical literature: show us that you have analysed the relevant parts of Unilevers practices (use footnotes with page numbers as citations, for instance).
Include analysis, synthesis and application of the relevant conceptual and theoretical material. Use theories, and dont just name them; use their various subcomponents as criteria to analyse the companys activities.
Avoid simply copy-pasting things from the website. Not only does this raise the risk of plagiarism, but it will also not count towards your marks. We are interested in your insight and critical perspectives on the facts, not merely the facts themselves. Always analyse and interpret any material you use.
Show critique practice: find an area where the course material helps you to critically analyse the company.
Give recommendations: suggest practical improvements.
The report must be in essay format: this means full sentences throughout, a good argumentative flow, and all the parts of your essay must work together as a whole to support your point of view.
Please avoid using half-sentences in a bullet-point structure, as these are sometimes difficult to comprehend. You are allowed to use the first person to express your personal point of view, but be sure to substantiate your views as well.
Your report should have an introduction, a main body (with subsections), and a conclusion, which includes recommendations.
Your report should have a table of contents with page numbers. Please use the Harvard referencing system both for in-line citations and for the bibliography.
