+ Option 1: Compose a personal statement OR a statement of future purpose (only choose 1). The written statements must be 500 words minimum. That is one page typed single-spaced or two pages typed double-spaced. The document should be in 12 points in a font thats professional and easy to read like Times New Roman.
1 a. The personal statement is meant for you to put into words how your life history, educational obtaining, and skills have prepared you to pursue a certain goal: a job in a specific field, graduate school, internship, or a business project. If you choose this option, please write a personal statement for yourself defining how you are equipped with the criteria. The objective of the personal statement should be clear. For this class, however, I am asking that you beef up components of your personal history like family background, family migration journey, familys economic hardships, and identity struggles and concretely identify how these components have taught you the skills and know-how to achieve your objectives. Turn your disadvantages into something instrumental. For example, being the first of your generation has taught you the skills of time management, developing study strategies, or problem-solving from your part-time job, just to name some examples. Skills that you will apply to your next endeavor.
1 b. The statement of future purpose is a written plan for the possible paths that you will take after your university education. In the future, I would like to achieve Please choose this option if you have an idea of your next step but you are not 100% sure. Some examples are a graduate school, nursing school, medical school, or even producing your own Youtube content (take the liberty to explore here). The statement can be divided into three paragraphs
A) Introduce yourself, your life history, and the goal you are curious about. Identify specific components of your life history that have prepared you for this goal.
B) B) What do you know about this objective and how do you plan to achieve the criteria? For example, the medical school requires the MCAT which is a journey, and producing Youtube content requires skills with recording, sound, editing, etc
C) C) Use this final paragraph to remind the reader of your potential objective and how you have arrived at that conclusion. In this paragraph, you reiterate and reword your personal history, skills, and how they will help you achieve this objective.

+ Option 2: Express yourself in a creative format. Some options that you can pursue: write a poem or creative essay (must be 350-500 words MINIMUM), submit a Youtube tutorial on making a heritage recipe or performing a heritage dance or musical piece, or produce a photo essay or visual collage expressing your identity, a short film drawing on influences from your life history.
The themes that should be the focal point of option 2 should echo the major points that we have covered in this course. Some of those themes are immigration, refugee, warfare, exodus, resettlement, violence, death, colonialism, racism, generation gap, discrimination, LGBTQ, etc
