Assessment includes all methods for gaining an understanding of childrens development and learning. For this assignment, each student will choose two different topics of interest related to the assessment of children / program evaluation and investigate the topics through journals, magazines, Internet resources, television programs, films, fiction/nonfiction books, and the field. The aim is to investigate broadly in diverse media to secure a variety of viewpoints and means of analysis. One essay (at least 5 pages, APA format) comparing and contrasting the two different topics should be prepared. A minimum of five sources are required, with three sources obtained from peer-reviewed journals. Your essay must contain complete bibliographic information. Suggested topics include observation methods and child study, concepts of measurement, role of testing in education, reporting to parents and other stakeholders, performance-based and other authentic assessment procedures, diversity in assessment, critical analyses of standardized assessment measures, assessment issues in a multicultural society, role of technology in assessment, No Child Left Behind, Head Start Outcome, and assessment.
