In the individual paper, you must choose an ethical case yourself for the individual paper. In principle, each case consists of an ethical dilemma in the field of mediated
communication is allowed.
For the individual assignment, you have to use the obligatory literature (Plaisance, P.L. (2013). Media ethics: Key principles for responsible practice (2nd ed.). Los Angeles,
CA: Sage. ISBN 978-1-4522-5808-9).
The length of the assignment is a maximum of 1250 words (excluding references and appendices).
Longer papers will not be assessed! The group paper should conform to APA guidelines (7th edition).
– Introduction: Short background sketch of the case, containing a clear description of the ethical dilemma. Name and define which values conflict and why they conflict.
– Moral actors: name (at least) 3 moral actors and indicate their responsibilities within the ethical dilemma. Indicate which moral actor in your opinion bears the main responsibility and why.
– Stakeholders: name (at least 3) stakeholders, other than those listed under moral actors, and clearly indicate for each stakeholder what is at stake for this party.
– Choices of action: Name at least 2 possible choices that the moral actor(s) can make and link these to the values mentioned in the introduction.
– Theory: Apply at least 2 ethical theories to both choices of action. Clearly describe how the theory is or is not a substantiation for each of the choices.
– Conclusion: Indicate which choice you prefer. Use the concepts of relativism and idealism, and briefly link back to the previously mentioned values and theories.
