Overview: You have likely noted that the larger topic of Sustainability and the subset – Corporate Sustainability – has been increasing in business journals, books, and organizational mission statements and values. Sustainability is a broad topic and probably deserves an entire course. For now we will just break off a small portion and argue that a faith-based view of work, like we have been expressing in this course, is one of the key ingredients in creating the vision, and providing some of the input and criteria for what is really needed for Corporate Sustainability – whether in terms of long-range viability of an organization, environmental impacts, or retention of human capital/employees (to name only a few areas).
The purpose of this assignment is to help you think about how a faith-based view of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), which rightly grows from a mind and life that is integrating business and ministry, is directly in the sweet spot of Sustainability. In other words, when you see or hear discussions on Corporate Sustainability I want you to be able to voice that the best path to true sustainability and optimimum CSR is via a Biblical-Theological worldview.
