1) Choose one social issue you would like to discuss or that interests you and write a script:
• Introduction – Explain the social issue. Give a summary of what the issue is about. What city is it located in? What is happening? How did it come about? Include terms from Section 1 such as social institutions, Social Location and Social Groups.

• Body – Explain the social issue through the eyes of a functionalist, Conflict Theorists and Symbolic Interactionist.

o This is the most critical part in the project. I am looking to see how you understand these perspectives and how you are able to explain these perspectives to someone who has not taken this course.

• Summary – Give your own opinion (don’t just say you support it) but base your opinion on the different sociological perspectives. How you agree and disagree with the different views and social groups. In addition, include any social movements or organizations who are for/against this social issue. What can we learn from this social issue and what can we do for social change?

o In this project, I am looking to see how well you understood the different sociological perspectives and you view and analyze social issues within the contemporary city. I also would like to see how you would explain these views to others who have not heard about functionalism, conflict theory and symbolic interactionism. How would you help them to learn why and how society functions? Take time to build a script of what and how you will present your social issue so that your podcast or video are flowing smoothly.
