. Choose an anthropological topic or debate and explore it in depth. This can be an interest of your own that can be explored from an anthropological viewpoint. To do this, you must first explain in detail the anthropological topic (ex. Positivism vs. Post-Modernism, the value and/or challenges of linguistic determinism, structural violence in Haiti, genital mutilation and cultural relativism, etc.,). Then you need to do a short literature review of the topic: what was said in the book and elsewhere about this? (here you need to do some research). And lastly, you will make your own assessment of the issue, using some of the theories you read in class, and suggest your own take (and conclusions) on the issue.

. Theories learned in class: Positivism vs. Post-Modernism , value and/or challenges of linguistic determinism, genital mutilation, cultural relativism, human agency, Ethnocentrism, Ethnographic fieldwork, How fieldwork affects informants, anthropological perspective.

. This should not exceed 5 double-spaced pages, 12-inch font, and Chicago Style. You must refer to the text and quote it. And keep in mind that i am mostly interested in seeing you struggle with the material and thinking for yourself. Write freely and creatively.
