Choose a scary movie scenefor example, the shower scene from Psycho, one of the shark attack scenes from Jaws, or a scary scene from one of the Scream movies. Obtain the movie video and first watch a scene with the sound turned off.

Instructions: Many individuals would agree with the general statement that music influences moods and emotions. However, individuals may not be aware of the extent of that influence. To test the emotional effects of music, do the following activities below and report your findings and opinions.

1.Choose a scary movie scenefor example, the shower scene from Psycho, one of the shark attack scenes from Jaws, or a scary scene from one of the Scream movies. Obtain the movie video and first watch a scene with the sound turned off. Then watch the same scene with the sound on. Did the addition of the music evoke stronger emotions or not? Why or why not?
2. Think of a song that you connect with a particular person to whom you have felt close emotionally. Play the song and observe whether hearing the song triggers some of your emotional feelings toward that person. What emotions are triggered?
3. Observe the types of music that various businesses play (bars, grocery stores, department stores, investment companies, and so forth). Does the music alter the moods or emotions of their clients? (One department store hires a pianist to play [mostly] classical music while people shop.)
4. To test whether music helps you get more out of exercise, try doing jumping jacks on the first day until you get tired. On another day, choose music with a quick beat that you like and, again, do jumping jacks until you get tired. (Many companies offer computer-generated music to regulate walking speedfrom 110 steps per minute to race-walking at 170 steps per minute.)
Document your findings….
