For this assessment you will identify an issue relating to one of the main themes covered in this class, develop a thesis statement expressing a perspective on that issue, do research and form an argument for your perspective, then formally present your argument as an essay.
From the following themes covered in this class, select one to respond to:
Aesthetics
Ethics
Media Theory
Politics (chosen topic)
Culture & identity
1. Choose a question and come up with a short answer to the question: this is your thesis. My chosen question is How has fashion been used to exert power over people?
2. Research the topic, finding at least four sources of evidence for your argument, including at least one academic journal article.
Identify the topic your question is under (aesthetics, ethics, etc), revise concepts discussed in class about that topic and choose some to use in your argument. The topic my question is under is Politics and some relevant concepts to include can be methods of exerting power (e.g. referent power), propaganda and protest and maybe some political ideologies.
3. Plan out some points you could make to support your thesis, check you have evidence to back them all up. If not, do some more research to find more sources.
4. Write up your points into an essay format.
5. Create a bibliography listing your sources. Check youve included in-text citations at the end of any sentence that includes a quote, or any sentence that includes paraphrased information.
You will be assessed on:
The clarity of your thesis
Your application of concepts from your chosen theme to your chosen topic
Clarity of language and structure
Research, and proper acknowledgement of sources
