1) Theme – What do you think the overall meaning or message of the poem is?
2) Form – Is it open or closed, and can you identify any rhyme or meter?
3) Diction and Syntax – Identify at least two words that you think were carefully chosen by the author and tell why? Does the poem use any unique styles of syntax that break with the normal structures of grammar and punctuation? If they do, why? What meaning does this hold?
4) Choose any other literary element (for example: irony/simile/metaphor/sound, etc.) that you can identify and think is important to understanding the poem and explain why.
