HI I teach kindergarten. Please include the following that I use in my classroom:
– Going over rules and expectations, PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention System)
– Turn and talk to your neighbor for ideas
– We do dancing or singing brain breaks throughout the day
– Give hugs or high fives or handshakes on the way into class
– Also please add that I do the same routine daily. We eat breakfast, do our morning work, and for literacy, we have workstations (Vocabulary, writing, word work, guided reading, technology) this is daily.
We work with manipulatives and do many assessments so I know where my students are at
A positive and safe classroom culture is crucial to high-level critical thinking and open-minded questioning. Reflecting on and evaluating our past P12 classroom cultures is an effective way to improve our own. By enhancing the strengths and eliminating the weaknesses, we can create an improved classroom culture. In this assignment, you will find practical culture-building strategies to take from this class into your own classroom.
Create a minimum 525-word outline of the steps, actions, and behaviors for teachers to provide a classroom environment and culture that ensures a safe and secure setting for critical thinking and questioning. Address the following in your outline:
Describe physical arrangements of space that support discussion.
Describe a variety of opportunities and activities that encourage students to deepen their thinking and problem solving.
List activities that promote student involvement in the classroom and ownership of their own learning.
Identify the teacher behaviors that help students take risks and speak freely.
