As you outline and read Chapter 5, for this week’s assignment, I ask that you focus specifically on the Eight Ground Rules for Difficult Dialogues. Often we can sense where growth, accommodation, or intervention is needed. As you learn more about other cultures, or variances even among our own, there are some simpler conversations and some more complex, much more complex ones. Using these 8 ground rules, please construct a scenario where you might face very complex and ‘difficult dialogue,” but that you could shape and improve with the right conversations. The first paragraph should be the scene you create. The second and any subsequent paragraphs should include application of each of the 8 ground rules to the difficult dialogues which could be instrumental in building on and improving that scene you’ve created. This is a challenging assignment this week. I anticipate your responses will be at least 300 words, and more depending on the depth of your responses. Look at the Communicating Inclusively Ten strategies, and consider where those may play into your utilization of the 8 ground rules, in leading the discussion around a difficult, but sorely needed, dialogue/conversation.
