The first writing assignment is to write a 3-4 page paper where you analyze a product of popular culture through the lens of two theories. A product of popular culture might be a movie, a television series, or a music album. To be successful on this paper, you must:
briefly summarize the media product (i.e. the plot of the movie, the theme of the album, etc.)
briefly summarize the main points of the two theories or theorists that you are using.
apply the theories to the case by carefully demonstrating how the theory or theorist does or does not apply to the case.
(the theories we discussed were sociological in nature. We talked about the ideas of Karl Marx, Max Weber, W.E.B. DuBois, and Emile Durkheim)
