ANALYSIS INSTRUCTIONS
In providing this summary keep in mind that many of your classmates will not have watched this particular documentary and think of ways that would help them understand your point.
For your analysis section, you can follow the guidelines from the previous week listed below.
1) What is the overall message of the film?
2a) Choose a topic/theme you found to be important to the films message. Topics can include but are not limited to: gender, politics, religion, culture, inequality, etc. How did the filmmakers portray that topic? Give specific details.
2b) Do you agree with how they represented the topic? Why or why not? Anything else youd like to add?
3) Briefly describe how you thought about your personal and/or social experiences with work and labor before and after engaging with a particular reading
IN-TEXT CITATION FORMATTING
Please note that you are responsible for figuring out the names and dates for any citations. For readings, just go to Google Scholar and input the title of the reading to determine the name and date.
You do not need to create a bibliography. However, you are required to provide in-text citations so we can see how you are utilizing class readings and lectures. As standard in publishing and academic writing, citing is mostly done by paraphrasing and verbatim quotes are used sparingly. So just one or two verbatim quotes max if you have a longer discussion. We want to read your unique voice. Show us that you can identify, define, and apply key terms paraphrasing your citations as much as possible.
Citing readings
Example: paraphrasing an authors work (Chang 2014)
Example: using verbatim quotes (Chang 2014: 8)
PLAGIARISM
This is an individual assignment and each reflection should be unique. We will deduct points from reflections that duplicate the work of other students or fail to quote and credit authors. As instructors, we love when you cite your sources because it helps understand how you are engaging with the class!
Credit must be given for every direct quotation, for paraphrasing or summarizing a work (in whole or in part) in one’s own words, and for information that is not common knowledge. It is the writer’s responsibility to ensure that submitted papers are free of plagiarism. Be aware that because each student has his or her own writing style, and because convenient software exists to match online texts, plagiarism is relatively easy for instructors to detect, and the consequences can be devastating to a student’s academic career. Submitting work that you did not write with your name on it is grounds for failure in the course. UCI takes academic honesty very seriously, and instructors are required to report any instances of plagiarism to the student’s academic dean who keeps a permanent record of the offense.
