Theres two different essays that need to be written. Theyre both major papers for both of my English classes and are both worth 50% of my grade, so there needs to be very few mistakes. Ill be including the instructions for the first one pasted below, and for the second Ill be attaching files below. You can pick the title for both as well and i put how many pages long I want each essay as well.
First Essay:
(6 pages long)
The first essay is going to be on the author Ray Bradbury and is book Fahrenheit 451. Ill put the instructions right below this and Ill also attach a file below too. There NEEDS to be a work cited for all sources used including the book Fahrenheit 451 itself. The instructions pasted directly below this will explain it all and tell you exactly what you need to do.
Instructions:
Major Paper
At the end of the semester, students will submit a major paper on their assigned author. This will be, in many ways, a more formal and structured version of the presentation. Students are to consult the Bedford handbook for all formatting and citation issues.
The Paper must include:
A. A discussion of the authors life. Biographical summary, discussion of influences, awards received, other important writers they may have known or worked with.
B. A comprehensive list of their published works.
C. A chronological discussion of what others have said or written about the author and/or their works. Both positive and negative reviews can be cited here. How was the work initially received? What things have later writers or critics said about them, etc.
D. A thematic analysis of the work(s) you read. THIS IS BY FAR THE BULK OF THIS ASSIGNMENT AND ITS GRADE. This is essentially a standard English class paper, using specific citations and examples from the text to argue for a particular interpretation of the thematic focus of the work(s). You here take a position on what you regard as the central issues/questions which your author presents/explores and then provide a convincing, evidence-supported argument to support your interpretation.
Second Essay:
(5 pages long)
The second essay has 2 parts to it. The first part is a Rhetorical Analysis and will be on The Hill We Climb by Amanda Gorman. I will upload a photo of the instructions for this essay below instead of pasting them under this like I did the first essay. I will also upload a photo of the poem. The second part is a reflection thats supposed to be on the more personal side, so Ill explain how I want you to go about doing it here. Im supposed to give a reflection on the key learnings from my course with evidence from my notes and annotations from class as well as other essays Ive written. Im supposed to include vocabulary as well. Im aloud to discuss a text Ive read that was most compelling to me and/or important concepts Ive learned and how Ive seen improvement in my writing. The way I want to go about it is Im going to have you write about the pathos, egos, and logos as well as the rhetorical situation(SOAPStone) of the text Superman and Me by Sherman Alexie. Before identifying them I need you to open this part of the essay with a compelling anecdote. Then you need to explain the meanings behind the appeals ethos, pathos, and logos as well as SOAPStone and its importance and things like that. Basically just start with a good anecdote then give a nice in depth introduction/ meaning of the appeals and SOAPStone and the work before explaining and going further. After youve done this then you can go into how the story shows pathos, ethos, and logos and how it includes SOAPStone. Also explain the deeper meaning of the text as well and how its impactful. Make sure its in depth. If you can, try to write this portion with a more personal tone. I can always fix it up and make it sound more personal but if you can that would be great since its supposed to be a personal reflection. Of course there has to be a work cited for all sources used for this essay as well.
