Topic: Anti-Asian violence and its impact on mental health: Supporting LaGuardia CC Students
Objectives
From this assignment, you will
1. find and understand research studies on impacts of recently increasing Anti-Asian hate crime
on mental health.
2. connect previous knowledge and learning on mental illness to develop coping strategy
repertoires
3. utilize various sources to solve problems related to a psychological inquiry
Instructions
You will write a paper (4-5 pages excluding reference pages) on supporting LaGuardia
students to deal with recently increasing Anti-Asian sentiment (e.g., promoting
psychological well-being, disseminating information, reducing stress etc). Your report
should consist of the following components and include the following seven
headings/labels.
(1) Introduction: 0.5 page
Write 1 paragraph of instruction that describes your topic and overall preview of
your paper
(2) Literature Review: 0.5 page
Start from the following on the American Psychological Association homepage

Then, using an on-line research database (e.g., Psycinfo or PubMed through
the library), find at least 2 research articles on Ant-Asian hate crime and mental
health.You might also choose articles on racial discrimination and its impacts
on mental health. However, youre the main focus in this project paper should
center around recent Anti-Aisan violence.
In addition to 2 research articles, find information on a web-page or newspaper
via internet search and include it.
Thus, at least total of 3 articles (2 of them should be from research database
search) are required.
(3) Issues related to NYC Residents and LaGuardia Students: at least 1 page Based on your experiences, experiences from others, and information from
news, internet etc, what might be characteristics or issues of NYC and
LaGuardia Community College students in relates to Anti-Asian hate crime?
(4) Creating a Pamphlet: 1 page
Considering (2) and (3) above, you will create a one-page pamphlet including
your own suggestions and list resources to help LaGuardia CC students who
deal with stress related to Anti-Asian sentiment and hate crime.
5.1 Attach the pamphlet after # (3) above but on a new page. Use break page

5.2 The Pamphlet should be tailer to LaGuardia students, and focus on recently
increasing Anti-Asian sentiment, violence, and hate crime.
5.3 It should be based on what you discussed in the literature review (#2
above) and NYC/LAGCC related issues (#3).
5.4. Your pamphlet should include the following components but not limited to:
– Title
– Introductory section
– Facts: Anti-Asian Violence and mental health
– Coping strategies/suggestions
– List of resources (web address or contact info should be included)
5.5 Visual quality: Should be a pamphlet format. However, you dont need to
worry about design aspects or visual quality (e.g. picture, color).
(5) Conclusion: 0.5 page
Briefly highlight main components of your report, why it your project is important
etc
(6) Reflection:0.5-1 page
Reflect on the process of writing this paper. How was it like for you to do this
project? How did this assignment deepen your awareness and understanding of
racism and mental health?
(7) References
In addition to making citations in text, you must create a reference page as well.
