Building class discussion and independent exploration, the final project asks you to work either in a group or on your own to analyze some aspect of East Asia, past or present, through the lens of a single “thing” (which can be an object—mundane or exceptional—or a word, symbol, etc.).
Your final product will be a “visual essay” combining text with images. The audience is smart and engaged undergraduate classmates who are interested in East Asia and considering taking this course next year.
Rather than an “all about” introduction that showcases information, your essay should demonstrate your ability to tell larger stories using a focused case study.
Spanning four to six pages, the project text should be 4-6 pages, and include between 1200 and 1600 words; it should also be in dialog with three to four well-chosen images.
The result will be a presentation that is both carefully crafted and engaging.
– This will be a visual essay including pictures and subtopics that have to be well formated.
– I will upload 2 documents that will show a rough idea of the essay and where to find sources and cite them.
