After reading chapter 14 in Schaefer (textbook), and watching the Dr. Seuss cartoon The Lorax PICK TWO QUESTIONS from the list below and write a two-page double spaced paper. This is not an opinion paper; it is a research paper. Back up any of your own thoughts with citations and examples.
Assignments must be typed, NO MORE THAN two double-spaced pages. Use Times New Roman, 12-point font with 1-inch margins on all sides. In the upper left hand corner of the page type your full name and which questions you are answering. You can just put the number. Ex: questions 1 & 3
You MUST watch the Dr. Seuss cartoon The Lorax and use it in your answer. ONLY CHOOSE TWO QUESTIONS from the list below to write the paper. The choice on what questions to choose is up to you.
1. Which aspects of capitalism do you personally appreciate? Which do you find worrisome? Explain. Give examples from the film and the textbook.
2. Discuss which sociological theory best describes this cartoon. Functionalist, Conflict, Interactionist. Give a definition of the theory and examples from the textbook and the cartoon.
3. What type of government is the one portrayed in the cartoon? Give a definition and examples from the textbook and the cartoon. How could a different government approach fix this situation or make it better?
4. Discuss which Sociologists ideas best fit this cartoon. Karl Marx, Wright Mills, G. William Domhoff, or another sociologist. Give a definition of the theory they propose and also why you feel it is the best example for this cartoon. Use both the cartoon and the textbook in your answer.
You should have three citations in your paper. Schaefer (textbook), The Lorax (film) and a third from an outside source. Citations can be put directly at the end of the document. They do not have to be on a separate page. Citations do not count towards your two pages.
