Imagine that the AANP as the Voice of the Nurse Practitioner (Links to an external site.) invites you to draft an advocacy statement on one change, in relation to the scope of practice, you would like to advocate for at either the federal or your state level. Write an advocacy statement on that very idea for change.

Opening Statement
Open with a statement that gets your audiences attention right away. This is your lead-in and should be only a sentence or two. Describe the problem, its impact, and who it affects.
Clarifying Problem/Issue
Provide some facts or data about the problem to demonstrate that a problem exists and to support your position. AND/OR, share a story or give an example of the problem to make it real and more compelling.
Connection to the AANP
Connect the issue to the AANP’s values, concerns, or interests. Try to show AANP how this interest fits with what they care about.
Making the Request
Make your request (the ask). Clearly state what you want AANP to do.
Peer Feedback
Provide quality feedback to at least two members of your homegroup’s advocacy statement. Feedback must include at least one substantive suggestion to improve the statement.
