Set not long after the end of World War II, the narrator returns home to Japan from college in America to see his father for the first time since his mother’s strange and unexpected death two years prior. The unspoken tension between the narrator and his father is evident during a family supper, in which the emotional barriers of each prevents them from speaking their respective truths.
