A good first draft. It covers an important topic. The text is well organized and makes good use of references. As you work on revisions pay careful attention to the clarity of the writing. In some places (indicated in the comments) the text and your intended meaning are unclear. So be sure to revise the text carefully and check for grammar and meaning. I strongly recommend taking your draft to the Campus Writing Center for help.
The in-text references are good. Be sure all of them follow the correct format (Author, YEAR). You do not need to include page numbers unless making direct quotes.
The first section focuses on the history of eugenics, which is good. On revision see if you can look more deeply at the modern history of forced sterilization in prisons, immigration centers etc. Also consider looking into forced sterilization for men as well as women. Your review of the science can focus on review of institutional policies around sterilization procedures. Work on further refining your thesis statement to include a very clear statement of your intended topic/question as well as an indication of your conclusion.
Throughout, the paper touches on three separate themes/issues. One is the history of eugenics in the US during the early 20th century, the second is modern forced sterilization within prisons, detention centers and other institutionalized settings, the third is a more general (and perhaps sinister) policy of misinformation by medical professionals to subtly (or overtly) coerce or suggest sterilization procedures for disenfranchised and marginalized groups of people in the US (but outside prisons and institutions). All three topics are important and warrant inclusion. You just need to be clearer in explaining and describing these three different circumstances and what assertions you are making out each.
Nice work! Really looking forward to seeing the revised, final paper.
Submit the final draft of your term paper. Papers should be 10-12 pages in length double spaced (2500-3000 words) and should reference a minimum of 10 original, peer-reviewed scientific sources as well as additional, non-peer reviewed sources. In total your paper should have at least 15 cited works.
Final checklist for revised submissions:
1. A revised, proof-read, well-written, essay that a) describes a body of scientific research, b) summarizes the social and societal concerns related to that research and c) provides a thoughtful discussion of how your think the concerns can be addressed and progress made.
2. The introduction of your paper should end with a clear thesis statement that indicates a) the question/topic you are addressing, b) a roadmap, and c) what you conclude about that topic.
3. The paper shall have properly formatted in-text citations in the form (Author, YEAR), and a properly formatted bibliography for each citation found in the paper. The bibliography will include a minimum of 7 peer reviewed publications, highlight in the bibliography with asterisks.
4. A brief (1 page) letter outlining what steps were taken to address the peer-review and my (editorial) comments on the rough draft. For every issue raised in the peer review and editorial comments you should either point out what steps were taken to address the issue, or explain why you chose to leave the text as it is.
