Name 2 key innovations that the NYC subway introduced that European systems did not have. What was the primary method through which the subway was constructed? Would you have wanted to be on that first car?

Now think about whether cars, ferries, streetcars, and railways knit cities together in the same way and how they change the spatial structure of cities. What would be your recommendation for ways to better “knit together” the Philadelphia area? More trains? More highways? Something else? Make the argument for why your proposal would better help citizens move across the metropolitan area and how it would make more opportunities available to everyone. What would the ensuing spatial structure of Philadelphia look like?
