Write an argument essay documented in MLA Format in which you argue pro (for) or con (against) the points made in three articles you have read in the unit. The articles you read were about language/culture acquisition by Julia Alvarez, Amy Tan, and Sui Sin Far). Each writer makes points connected to the challenges learning a new language and a new culture. Incorporate ideas from all three stories into your essay where you agree or disagree with the authors. To help you put this essay together better, you must also analyze their experiences by examining the research from Barna or Levine in their research articles, “Stumbling Blocks in Intercultural Communication” and/or “Social Time: The Heartbeat of Culture.” Including some these ideas into your argument essay. Remember- you are agreeing or disagreeing with the authors. You can only pick one side (Pro or con. ) You may use a small amount of personal experiences, but you must also include outside sources. The article mentioned about must follow MLA format.

There will be two parts to your essay.
Part 1:
Synthesize ( merge and combine) any of the stories points into your essay helping you to either agree or disagree with the authors perspective on their language/culture experiences of any of the characters;

Part 2:
Analyze the experiences in the stories by applying the research from the “Intercultural Communication Stumbling Blocks” or the “Social Time: The Heartbeat of a Culture” information to analyze the experiences that you have compared. Select evidence from the Barna or Levine article to apply to the examples from the articles.

Process of writing Essay #2:
First, you must read through the readings and select the parts from the stories and the research article you want to explore. Decide which parts of the stories fit best your position; These will be the sources of your essay.
Annotate and Take Notes: Take notes on the readings by making an outline of the key topics or points with examples. Be sure to write down the page numbers when you are going to use textual evidence for the citations. Write important quotes that you want to develop in your essay. Make a list of possible topics to focus on in the stories.
Organize: Plan your essay by creating an outline or chart with the main parts. Use the blank outline format from unit 4. You turned in one like it for a grade. The introduction should have your perspective on the readings and your experience. The main body will include supporting points and examples. The conclusion should reflect on or summarize the main points in the body of the essay. Remember to include that important Rebuttal paragraph before the conclusion. This paragraph will explain how some people will take the other side of your argument and gives the reader a glimpse of what their argument might be. Think Democrat vs Republican when you compose this paragraph.
