Please follow and read the Case Study very carefully as below: NO GENERAL INFORMATION.
Interview with Messiahs Math teacher: Messiah is deaf. Messiahs math ability is on grade level. Often times, he has difficulty with following the directions and vocabulary of math. I have observed Messiah has difficulty with following the steps of a problem. He is able to do well when there are examples and his computation skills are strong. He prefers to work alone and
group projects are difficult for him because he easily distracts other with off task noises. He is out of his control. Even though he is on grade level with most of the math concepts, he makes self-deprecating remarks about his ability and will shut down in a group and annoy his peers with
distracting noises. His mother has contacted me that he has recently started taking
medication for his depression.
See above for the case study:
Identify a student experiencing behavior issues in a classroom setting related to your certification area (math). Make sure that you can observe the student in the classroom setting at least once.
Before your observation(s):
See the case study: Gather relevant information from the teacher related to the concerning behaviors.
Choose only one or two concerning behaviors as the focus of your observation. The behaviors do not have to be severe or oppositional, they can be any observable behavior that the teacher would prefer the student stop doing because the behavior interferes with their learning or the learning of others or because it is harmful, maladaptive, or socially immature/inappropriate.
Define the behaviors of concern in observable and measurable terms
Review the Time on Task Observation document and PATTAN Functional Assessment Tools document (see attached)
During your observation(s):
Complete a 15 minute systematic observation using time on task following the document linked (see attached is the form)
Complete a 15 minute qualitative observation using one of the ABC Observation Forms in the PATTAN document ( see attached and choose ONE of the ABC observation forms)
These observations can be completed back to back or at different times. Different days, times of days, settings for your observations can be valuable and helpful for data collection, but is not required.
After your observation(s):
For the Time on Task observation, complete the calculations as listed
Organize your ABC data and observations
Write a paper that addresses the following information:
Student background
Behaviors of concern: include teacher feedback and define the behaviors of concern in observable and measurable terms
Results of the Time on Task Observation
Results of the ABC Observation
Identify behavioral goals for the student. What do you want to see improve based on the information collected?
Recommendations: Identify at least three recommendations for supporting this student in the classroom and helping to improve behavior
What should be submitted:
Your paper as detailed above
Your Time on Task observation chart with calculations
Your ABC Observation Chart
Be sure to follow APA formatting including:
Cover page
Reference page
References utilized appropriately throughout
Double spacing, Times New Roman font
Written entirely in paragraph form – no bullet points or abbreviated sections
Use 3rd person narrative throughout – no 1st person narrative
Abstract is not required
Your paper should not exceed 4 pages (not including the cover page, reference page, and observation charts)
