Observe the following as a historical analysis is constructed:
1) Critical threshold
Describe how the group became part of the American experience (e.g., the United States belonged to Native Americans when Europeans and others came).
It is important to analyze the group’s political, economic, and technological strategic importance to the status quo of America at its time of entry.
2) In celebration of the past
Describe the group’s historical circumstances before they came to America. Here you are focusing on the cultural and technological competence of the group as members of their own society. Try to understand the unique accomplishments of their culture, their unique talents, and the contributions of that culture which contributed to the greatness of America (e.g., much of the early agricultural technology learned by early settlers in the United States was taught to them by Native Americans).
3) In the crucible
Describe and analyze the kinds of oppression which the group experienced as part of the American experience.
Be very specific, descriptive, and include things such as the manifestations of oppression along lines of gender, age, status, and variations in physiognomy.
4) Life as it is
Explore the current circumstances of the group using both statistics and case examples to present a QUALITATIVE AND QUANTITATIVE profile of the selected group.
Conduct a critical analysis of this profile to identify how past history shapes the current circumstances of the group.
5) Conclusion
Conclude this historical analysis with:
a) A well-developed set of cultural diversity principles, which are grounded in this study, and which lend for your continued exploration of cultural diversity knowledge, values, and skills as future social work practitioners (education or practice).
b) Relevant ideas to advocate for human rights with and for the selected group at both the individual and system levels.
