Choose a particular subset of sexual encounter. As each of you will be focusing on different particulars, we’ll have the chance to explore a wide variety of cases, and get into a plurality of issues that may come up in the study of sexual ethics.

To make sure you understand what I’m looking for, here’s a list of the types of subcategories I have in mind for you to focus on, but these are only suggestions – you don’t have to select something from this list.

one night stands
friends with benefits
sex for money
sex when there’s a power differential (supervisor/employee, teacher/(adult) student, coach/(adult) team member, etc.)
sex when you’re in a relationship, with someone outside of the relationship
drunk sex

Step 1: Your Post – Give an argument regarding the moral permissibility of sex under the condition you have chosen. Be sure to identify the moral elements that you think make the sexual encounter permissible or impermissible.

Step 2: Your Response to Others’ Posts – Once others have posted their arguments, offer responses to those posts. Your response might be a counterargument, or it might provide additional arguments that support the original poster’s view. Your post must further the conversation in a meaningful way – simply saying you agree is not enough. If you agree, add on with a new supportive argument.

Step 3: Your Response to Other’s Posts to Your Post – Check back in throughout the week to see the responses your classmates have given. Do your best to respond to their counterarguments.
