Read as much of the assigned reading as you can. I’d like us to talk in the discussion about the relationship between ideologies and values. To what extent do ideologies influence our personal values and political values. Can ideologies make us distort reality and look for ‘fake’ facts; engage in actions that constitute a threat to democracy? To what extent are ideologies a tool of a leader to pursue personal ‘visions’ (e.g. Putin) versus a real expression of the ‘will of the people’. How do we know what the ‘real’ will of the people is? Or do certain ideologies perhaps all ideologies, rely on ‘propaganda’ to define the will of the people? Is the concept the ‘will of the people’ even meaningful since there can be many ‘wills’ with different objectives ( e.g. former President Trump and election denial)?
